Our featured author is Laura Kennedy.  She has recently sold her young adult novel, Double Take, to Fire and Ice, a division of Melange Publishing. It is scheduled to be released in March 2014.  Set in the fictitious town of Coral Cove, Florida (which sounds suspiciously like Tarpon Springs), Double Take is about sixteen-year-old Brooke Bentley whose convertible breaks down one night in front of an old Victorian on Spring Bayou.  With a dead battery and dead cell phone, Brooke runs to the door of one of the relics, hoping it’s the home of her mother’s friend, Elaine.  Instead she’s greeted by an elderly butler in a faded black tux who reminds her of the guy on the box of Uncle Ben’s Rice, except he isn’t smiling.  Invited out of the rain, Brooke meets Laura de France, a delusional 1950’s movie star who claims she starred in the role of Gwyneth opposite actor Robert Wagner in the movie Beneath the 12-Mile Reef.  Interestingly enough, the actual movie was filmed here in Tarpon Springs in 1953.  For more information on the author, please go to http://laurakennedy17.wordpress.com.
